Your safety is our top priority. Please review the following information carefully to ensure a safe and successful race experience.
COURSE NOTES
The Stormin’ Norman Run is conducted on a partially open course. Participants should remain alert and aware of surrounding traffic conditions at all times.

Runners are asked to stay to the right; pass on the left.
​
Unauthorized Vehicles

No unauthorized vehicles are permitted on the course.

No personal bicycles, rollerblades, scooters, or pets are permitted on the course.

No pacers are allowed, except for adaptive athletes.
-
Strollers are permitted, however must begin at the back of the start corral unless permitted by race management.
Road Conditions
-
The course includes paved roads, sidewalks, and bridge surfaces that may contain cracks, uneven pavement, or debris.

All major intersections will have a presence from the Norman Police Department or the OU Police Department.

Action Safety has been engaged to install signage and cones throughout the entire course. Volunteers will provide directional guidance at key points.

Runners must obey all traffic control instructions and may be required to yield at certain intersections.

Runners must obey all instructions from police officers, course officials, and volunteers.
Time Limits
-
At the 3.5 hour mark, all Half Marathon participants still on the course will be directed to move to the sidewalk.

The finish line will remain open through 11:00 AM.

Elevation Overview
-
The course features an estimated overall elevation gain of approximately 27 feet.
-
36th Street northbound includes a gradual incline.
-
A significant hill is located on Rock Creek Road as runners pass over I-35.
-
The back portion of the course is primarily downhill.
​
Course Transitions
-
Runners will move from the road to the sidewalk at the interchange of 24th Avenue NW and Tecumseh Road.
-
Participants will move back into the road as they approach the roundabout at Flood Avenue and James Garner Avenue.
-
This area of the course will have ADA-compliant bollards at all major intersections.
-
24th Avenue Northwest is part of the active course and will remain partially open.
Headphones
Headphones are not permitted.
Adaptive Athletes
Pacers, bicycle assistants, and guide dogs are permitted only for registered Adaptive Athletes.

Spectators
Spectators should review the official Spectator Page for designated viewing area guidance.
NUTRITION
Start Line Hydration
Water will be available at the starting line.
Half Marathon Water Stations

Water stations will be available every two miles at the 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, and 12 mile marks.

Bathrooms will be available at Miles 4, 8, and 12.
-
The 8, 10, and 12 mile water stations will also offer regular Gatorade.
-
Gummy bears will be available at water stations for runners.
5K Water Stations
The 5K course will not include a water station.
Race Fuel
As race fuel is a highly personal choice with numerous nutritional considerations participants are asked to supply their own race fuel (BYOG).
Post-Race Refreshments
After crossing the finish line, runners can enjoy:

All participants are strongly encouraged to hydrate properly before race day and prior to the start of the event.
MEDICAL
Participant Responsibility
As with most sports, running a road race involves a number of inherent risks, including but not limited to tripping and falling, contact with other participants or spectators, the effects of weather, traffic, and road conditions.

On-Site Medical Support

EMSTAT will be stationed at the start/finish line.
-
The Half Marathon/5K courses will have 6 to 8 additional first responders on bicycles.
-
Basic first aid and ice will be available near the start/finish line.
In addition to water stations, approximately 50 volunteers will be positioned throughout the course to assist runners.

If You Feel Unwell
Runners experiencing a medical issue should call 911 immediately or notify the nearest course volunteer for assistance.
If you drop out of the race, please notify an aid station or course volunteer.
Personal Drop Bags
Half Marathon participants may leave one (1) gallon bag at the 8-mile water station. Drop bags must be left at bib pick-up prior to race start. Bags should clearly labeled by the owner.

Emergency Contact Information
Runners are encouraged to write emergency contact information on the back of their bib and carry medical identification if they have known conditions.

WEATHER
Severe Weather
In the event of severe weather, race officials will evaluate conditions and determine appropriate safety actions. Participants should monitor event communications and follow all official instructions.
Lightning
In the event of lightning, race will be delayed until a point that it is safe to commence. Participants should seek shelter immediately if instructed.
Historic Average Weather Conditions – March 29
Morning (around 7 AM): Cool spring temperatures, typically in the upper 40s°F to low 50s°F (about 9–12 °C) for early morning lows in late March. This is based on March monthly normals in the region.
Late Morning (around 11 AM): Temperatures generally warm into the upper 50s°F to low 60s°F (approximately 14–17 °C) by mid-late morning. March days warm relatively quickly after sunrise in central Oklahoma.
In the case of excessive heat or humidity, participants should adjust pacing accordingly. If temperatures or heat index reach unsafe levels, event may be postponed or delayed until it is safe to continue, and additional hydration measures may be implemented.
